Samba Speedo Cable LHD/RHD differences

Berichtdoor mmarks » 14 aug 2006, 14:56

In my search for a Samba Cabrio speedometer cable, I can (through eBay) purchase a cable stated as for RHD vehicles (mine is LHD). I assume the connections are identical, would it just be the cable length that differs?
Would the RHD cable be longer or shorter than for LHD and if longer - does that cause any problems in routing it?

I dont know what RHD vehicles (mine is LHD) means.

But the plastic adaptor in the gearbox has a square metal insert and with the XY engines you have I think 3 different Dimensions. So figure out which you need

Advice: if the car has its original engine, order the cable at Peugeot

Hi there, LHD and RHD mean Left hand drive and Right hand drive. UK cars are RHD and we all have LHD cars! So, if in a European model, the gearbox connection is at the same side as the driver, then the distance will be shorter for the cable.

They are no original part numbers.

Maybe tomorrow I can look in my workplace, I have new ones in original packing, so maybe I can find a number

I looked at the marktplaats advert. The speedometer end is different to mine. Mine has a white plastic clip that goes over the end of the instrument and clicks in place. The one on ebay is 45 inches long (that is shorter than this 104 item!)

Tried it again, the non-english cables have a lenth of 90cm ( 35.7 inches)

I doubt if the englisch cables are shorter (or different), because the gearbox connection is almost in the middle of the car
The number I found is 6122-42 but this type has thread at the side of the meter. Not good one.
So I have to look further to find the right number

Wow, thanks for your help.
I am awaiting the seller of the RHD cable to send me pictures of the connections and my new trolley jack arrived today so, hopefully, I can get under the car tomorrow evening and disconnect the old cable (and rebuild the gear change connecting rods). Then who knows, in a couple of weeks I can actually use the car..........
BTW the cable on ebay is about 20 euros - does that sound reasonable???

@Mike,

Looking at the first picture it seems to me that the speedometercable has just been cut off, and that de plastic tube it is supposed to fit in has been damaged at the outer ring. This will make it harder to secure it onto the differential with the metal pin. The tube may start spinning around a bit which may cause even more damage to it.

Without changing the speedometer connectionclip at the other end you'll need a cable of exactly the same type. The one on Marktplaats I brought to your attention won't do, it fits on mine however, same length, same connectionclip.

When inserting the (new) black connectiontube make sure that the securing pin on top of the differential is removed completely, and that the little hole in the tube is in the correct position. That's the only way to secure the lower clip into the tube. Good luck, M.

Thanks for the advice, I am also going to go to my local Peugeot dealer today and take the cable with me to see if they have a replacement.
