Samba Cabrio speedo cable & carbs

Berichtdoor mmarks » 10 aug 2006, 14:49

I there,

The speedo on my 'new' samba cabriolet didn't work so I went to see if it was disconnected.
There wasn't a cable there!!!!

I can (I hope) get a new cable but cannot see where on the transmission it connects. The Haynes manual shows a picture of the speedo cable but I cannot see the connector from under the bonnet. Please could somebody tell me exactly where it connects so I can fit the new one.

Also, I took the air filter cover off the carbs as it was idling too high (about 1500 rpm) but was suprised that both the carbs said Weber on them, not Solex! Are they the same company or have I got non-standard carbs on the car?

Lastly, the fuel guage doesn't work. Are there any checks I can make to see if it the sender, the guage or the wiring between them?

Many thanks.

Mike

At http://www.depopulier.com/ I saw a month ago a Talbot Samba Cabrio with a very new white hood.

Best way to contact them and ask for parts, if its still there.

@Mark,

The speedometercable should be connected inside a plastic tube on the righthandside of the differential, as shown in the picture beeing disconnected, and secured with a pin. To connect the other end of the cable to the speedometer you probably have to withdraw the center part of the dashboard. To create enough workingspace in some cases the steeringweel too. In that case you better mark its original position. Good luck, M.

Thanks for that, sorry to sound dumb, but, lookin g down from the bonnet, where do I find the transmission connection for the speedo cable?

Also, does anyone have any specs on the Weber carbs - all the info I have points to Solex, no specifications on the Weber.

Learning to know the car

Put the car up in front, then crawl under it. With this car the gearbox in beneath the engine. Where the driveshafts come out there you find the gearbox. Look at the picture on this toppic and you will recognize
