How to use the heater???

Hi all,

I have a 1985 Samba Cabrio (just bought it) but it has no owners handbook.
I am trying to figure out how to use the heater controls, assuming they are the same as a 104, could some kind person please explain to me how to use them!!!!

It's a quite simple but nonetheless effective construction actually, and with a Talbot Samba very much the same as with the 104 types by Peugeot.

Switch #27 controls the temperature, switch #19 controls the inlet of outside air or recirculation, wheels #18 and #28 control the direction of airflow (defrost or interior, right and left separable) and switch #24 controls the one or two-speed heater-ventilator. Regards, M.

I really wondered what the knob on the right hand side was for! It didn't move very far but now I know why.
seperate right and left distribution - my wifes 2000 space wagon doesn't even have that!

The car sort of looks like the photos (it is a cabrio), but needs tidying up.
The gear stick seems to move an awful long way to the right to select gears (any suggestions?) and the rear window is really just pieces of sticky tape But, with help and advice, I hope to have her up and running in the next couple of weeks.

Well, in most cases the inner nylon linings of various balljoints of the gearlever system between gearlever and gearbox are dry and/or simply worn out. An incorrect (neutral) position of the gearstick itself happens when axels #3 and/or #8 require adjustment or renewal, an easy job you can do on your own. On ebay you can find several ads on quite a few manuals for Talbot Samba, by Haynes too, I think you should give it a try. Good luck and welcome to the club! M.

I have ordered a Haynes manual (in english!) and hope it will arrive before the weekend so I can work on the car.
To be honest, it doesn't appear to need much work. The car generally looks and drives very well, but the rear window needs replacing, the gear linkage needs looking at and there is quite a snatch when engaging a gear, so I need to look at the engine mountings.
I am also a little concerned about the cylinder head as the previous owner used unleaded petrol, and I don't think these engines were designed for it, so I will look at the valve clearances and if they have recessed, I will have the head reconditioned. If not, I will start to use lead additives when I put fuel in.
It is also VERY dirty!
